Project 46 Releases Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory and High-Impact Actions Report

Bloomington, INLocal News

The Project 46 Southern Indiana Regional Climate Alliance has released its 2022 Inventory of Community-Wide Greenhouse Gas Emissions and High Impact Actions Analysis. This report indicates that the region produced 4. 2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2022, with 35% of emissions stemming from gasoline and diesel vehicles. By adopting high-impact actions, including greater electric vehicle adoption, the region could achieve an additional 6% reduction, totaling a 39% decrease by 2030. Mayor Kerry Thomson, a member of the Project 46 Steering Committee, highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing climate change.

The report also stresses conducting energy efficiency retrofits in buildings and diverting waste from landfills as key strategies. The Midwest faces challenges from climate impacts, necessitating immediate action to protect the region. Project 46 consists of communities in Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, aiming to tackle shared climate issues. The full report and additional resources for reducing emissions are available on Project 46’s climate information website.
