Bloomington Launches Tree Assistance Program for Homeowners

Bloomington, INLocal News

Bloomington's Parks and Recreation Department announced the launch of the Tree Assistance Program (TAP) to support homeowners with hazardous tree issues. The initiative allows eligible homeowners to remove or prune dangerous trees and plant new ones, enhancing both safety and the local tree canopy. To qualify, applicants must live at the property and meet specific income guidelines, with single-income households needing to earn less than $63,000 and multiple-income households under $72,300 annually. Applications, due by October 1, will be assessed by a committee from various city departments, ensuring a thorough review process. The program, approved by the Board of Park Commissioners on July 17, reflects a commitment to improving community safety and environmental health.

All approved projects will be contracted out for execution in spring 2026. The initiative aims to contribute to shade, erosion control, and wildlife habitat, illustrating a proactive approach to urban forestry. Residents seeking more information may reach out to Urban Forester Haskell Smith.
