New Map Lets Residents Identify Habitat Corridors Across Bloomington

Bloomington, INLocal News

Bloomington has launched an interactive Habitat Connectivity Map that invites residents to pledge greenspace for wildlife conservation. This initiative, developed by the Bloomington Environmental Commission alongside the Planning & Transportation and Information & Technology Services departments, identifies existing and potential habitat corridors throughout the city. Community members can participate by planting native species and removing invasive plants, with small contributions capable of forming larger habitat corridors through collective efforts. “This map is a powerful tool for visualizing how the community can contribute to restoring and connecting native habitats,” stated Rachael Johnson, Senior Environmental Planner. The project aims to enhance urban biodiversity and strengthen community engagement in conservation efforts.

Pledges will be visible on the map, illustrating a network of restored greenspaces connecting three Priority Greenspace Areas. The initiative fosters community pride and highlights Bloomington's commitment to environmental sustainability. To add your greenspace, visit the city’s official website.
