WSDOT details updates to the upcoming Guide Meridian resurfacing project

Bellingham, WALocal News

WSDOT will begin a resurfacing project on the Guide Meridian from I-5 to Kellogg Road in spring 2027. The agency reports that between 35,000 and 52,000 vehicles use this stretch daily. After gathering community feedback, officials identified a need for improved merging from the NB I-5 off-ramp to Telegraph Road. Proposed changes include removing the channelized right turn and adding a right turn lane next to the left turn lane onto the Guide. This initiative aims to enhance traffic flow and safety for bikers and pedestrians, addressing concerns raised by local residents.

WSDOT encourages public engagement through an online open house, available until December 1. Local stakeholders view this project as crucial for improving transportation infrastructure in Bellingham. The resurfacing project is expected to significantly impact daily commuters and local traffic patterns.
