New schedule for Anacortes to San Juan Island ferry to stay in place through spring

Bellingham, WALocal News

Washington State Ferries will implement a new schedule for the Anacortes to San Juan Island ferry starting September 21, 2025, lasting through June 13, 2026. This marks the first time in 20 years that the fall schedule will remain unchanged during winter and spring. Planning Manager Jason Rogers expressed confidence in the new schedule, citing the success of the updated spring schedule over a full sailing season. Earlier this year, the state Legislature allocated funds to increase ferry service to the San Juans during the winter months. The route will now offer 144 trips per week, up from 130 trips last winter, reflecting a commitment to improving service.

The increased frequency aims to meet the demands of ferry riders during the off-peak seasons. Officials will continue to monitor the schedule's performance to maximize the service's efficiency. This development is significant for residents and tourists relying on ferry access to the San Juan Islands.
