Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Cheers to Zero Waste Holidays and Beyond

Bellevue, WALocal News

Bellevue's Zero Waste Holiday Program is designed to tackle the environmental impact of increased waste during the holiday season. With an estimated one million tons of extra garbage generated nationwide, the city aims to educate its residents on sustainable practices. Erin Hislop, the conservation and outreach program administrator, highlights the need for community involvement to achieve a zero-waste lifestyle. Events such as the Bellevue Farmer's Market and Downtown Ice Rink will serve as platforms for sharing zero waste tips and distributing reusable items made from recyclable materials. The initiative encourages creative wrapping practices and the recycling of cardboard boxes to minimize waste.

Additionally, the city will introduce 'eco-book bingo' to engage youths in sustainability challenges. Bellevue also plans to offer free Greener Living classes for residents after the holidays, ensuring ongoing support for sustainable living. This comprehensive approach aims to instill a culture of conservation in the community year-round.
