Texas Attorney General Investigates Austin ISD for 'Woke Indoctrination'

Austin, TXLocal News

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated legal action against the Austin Independent School District (AISD), alleging violations of state law through the use of Critical Race Theory (CRT) materials, including the banned 1619 Project. The Attorney General's office plans to depose the AISD Superintendent and Board of Trustees as part of an investigation into potential systemic policy violations regarding curriculum content. “This investigation aims to uphold the rule of law,” Paxton remarked, as AISD faces backlash for what critics describe as "woke indoctrination. " Reports indicate that some AISD staff suggested methods to bypass state restrictions on CRT-related materials. In 2021, Texas legislators enacted a ban on implementing the 1619 Project's curriculum in public education.

This legal challenge is part of Paxton's broader fight against what he labels “woke ideology” in Texas education. Opponents argue that the lawsuit seeks to suppress discussions on race and history in schools. The AISD has yet to release an official statement regarding the ongoing legal proceedings.
