Austin, TXLocal News

The Austin-Travis County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is currently active in response to hazardous travel conditions resulting from freezing temperatures and wintry precipitation. Residents are encouraged to stay home unless absolutely necessary, as the National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory. The EOC is working collaboratively with various city and county departments, along with partner agencies, to provide timely updates available in 14 languages. Emergency services have reported over a dozen cold exposure incidents since the onset of the storm, including two tragic fatalities. Cold Weather Shelters are open to assist those in need, and a sixth shelter is expected to accommodate the growing demand.

Additionally, Austin Water crews are addressing multiple water main breaks while ensuring that affected customers receive timely updates and assistance. The city emphasizes the importance of keeping 9-1-1 lines clear for emergencies, directing non-emergency inquiries to the 3-1-1 service. With conditions expected to persist, the EOC will remain operational, continuing to provide essential services and resources to the community.
