George Glezmann, an airline mechanic from Atlanta, has been freed after being held captive by the Taliban for over two years. He was abducted in December 2022 while traveling through Afghanistan as a tourist and was later classified as wrongfully detained by the U. S. government. His release was confirmed by the State Department following negotiations led by the Trump administration, with significant input from Qatari mediators.

Aedis LaVeau, Glezmann's daughter, suggested that the Taliban recognized the risk of his deteriorating health, prompting his release. His wife, Aleksandra, expressed her eagerness to support him as he begins his recovery process. Glezmann is currently en route to Washington D. C. , where he will reunite with his family.

This marks the third American detainee released by the Taliban since January, highlighting ongoing diplomatic efforts concerning U. S. citizens abroad. The situation underscores the complexities of international negotiations and the personal toll of such detentions.
