911 call captures frantic plea after Atlanta officer crashes into home

On Monday evening, an Atlanta police officer crashed into a home on James P. Brawley Drive NW, igniting a fire that damaged both the patrol vehicle and the structure. The crash occurred at approximately 8:15 p. m. while Officer Malik Safi was responding to a call for backup from another officer.

A panicked witness reported the incident to 911, stating that the police vehicle was on fire and that bystanders helped pull Safi from the vehicle. He remains hospitalized with serious injuries, and authorities have not disclosed the severity of his condition. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances of the crash, including potential mechanical failure or excessive speed. Fortunately, the resident inside the home at the time was unharmed. Fire crews quickly extinguished the flames following the impact.
