Family demands charges in the death of Johnny Hollman Sr. after traffic stop incident

Atlanta, GALocal News

The family of Johnny Hollman Sr. , a 62-year-old man who tragically died following a contentious traffic stop in Atlanta, is advocating for justice and pushing for murder charges against the involved police officer and tow truck driver. After a recent meeting with Fulton County district attorney, the family and their attorney, Mawuli Davis, expressed cautious optimism for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Hollman's death. On August 10, 2023, Hollman was involved in a car accident that escalated when Officer Kiran Kimbrough attempted to issue a citation, leading to a physical confrontation that resulted in Hollman losing consciousness. Body camera footage revealed the officer using a stun gun multiple times as Hollman exclaimed he could not breathe.

The tow truck driver, Eric Robinson, is also under scrutiny for his actions during the incident, which included allegedly sitting on Hollman's head and neck. Despite a multi-million dollar lawsuit settlement against the city, the family remains resolute in their demand for accountability and justice. They are scheduled to meet with the district attorney again in early June to advocate for the charges they believe are warranted. The situation highlights ongoing concerns regarding police conduct and accountability in the wake of tragic incidents involving law enforcement.
