Atlanta, GALocal News

In a significant ruling, a Douglas County jury has convicted Tevin Burgess on multiple charges, including aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, related to a shooting incident at a RaceTrac station on Thornton Road in March 2024. The victim, who was shot three times, described the attack as unprovoked and identified Burgess as a childhood friend. Surveillance footage revealed that the victim approached Burgess' vehicle before being shot as he walked away, highlighting the unexpected nature of the violence. Thankfully, despite the severity of the incident, no bystanders, including a woman and her two children in a nearby car, were harmed by the stray bullets. Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine issued a statement condemning the reckless actions that endangered innocent lives, emphasizing the community's commitment to justice.

The court has scheduled sentencing for Burgess on March 13, 2025, where he will face the consequences of his actions. This case underscores the ongoing issues of gun violence and community safety, topics of great relevance in today’s society. As the community awaits sentencing, the focus remains on ensuring accountability for such reckless behavior.
