Historic Cobb County home purchased by couple for 1, will be moved to Cherokee County

Atlanta, GALocal News

After years on the market, the McAfee House, a historic home located in Marietta, Georgia, has found a new owner in Lee and Brittani Lusk, who purchased it for just $1. The sale was facilitated by Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society, which required the buyer to remove the home from its current location, a process that could cost six figures. The Lusks, experienced in renovating over 40 historic homes, plan to relocate the McAfee House to their property in Ball Ground, approximately 30 minutes away. Their successful bid was chosen from over 40 offers, highlighting the strong community interest in preserving local history. Lee Lusk expressed his childhood dream of owning the McAfee House, while Brittani shared her surprise at the bid submission.

The couple will need to navigate the complexities of cutting the house into four sections for transportation. Cobb Landmarks sees this as a best-case scenario, ensuring the house will be saved and well cared for. The Lusks aim to transform the house into a civic building or family home, emphasizing their commitment to historic preservation.
