Atlanta teachers surprised with classroom supply shopping spree

Atlanta, GALocal News

Georgia's Own Credit Union surprised teachers at Cascade Elementary School in Atlanta with a "pop-up shop" filled with $5,000 worth of school supplies on Tuesday. The teachers were initially invited to an "expectations meeting," creating a delightful surprise when they arrived. This initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on educators, particularly in Title I schools, where teachers often spend significantly more than the average expected $820 on classroom supplies. Marin Kraushaar, executive director of Georgia's Own Foundation, noted the school's recent renovations and the challenges teachers faced during the transition back to the building. This support aims to set the teachers and administration up for success as the school year begins.

The supplies included essential items such as markers, scissors, and snacks for students. This is the fourth consecutive year that Georgia's Own has delivered surprise supplies to an Atlanta elementary school. The program reflects a growing recognition of the financial challenges faced by teachers nationwide.
