They found their rooms had been re-listed for $750 after they had originally booked for under $300. Hotel staff attributed the cancellations to overbooking, a practice termed "walking," which often leaves guests without accommodations during peak demand times. Consumer advisor Clark Howard noted that hotels may prioritize profit over policy during high-demand events, which can lead to such situations. Both fans expressed their frustrations about the lack of support or compensation from the hotel.

After their story gained media attention, the hotel agreed to reinstate their reservations at a lower rate. This incident highlights the risks travelers face when booking accommodations during major events. As occupancy rates soar, the potential for overbooking increases, leaving guests vulnerable to sudden cancellations.
