Around 4:30 p. m. , officers were alerted to the situation at a hotel located in the 1700 block of East Yakima Avenue. After leaving the hotel, the man approached the Greenway, where he was stopped by police.

The Yakima Police Department stated that the incident escalated into an armed confrontation, leading to the officer discharging his weapon and resulting in the man's death at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim's name, emphasizing his status as a Yakima resident.
