Woodinville Receives $850,000 in Federal Funding

Woodinville, WALocal News

Woodinville has been awarded $850,000 in federal funding to enhance fish migration and restore habitats along Little Bear Creek, as announced by Congresswoman Suzan DelBene on July 3, 2024. The funding, part of the FY24 Community Project Funding, aims to tackle flooding and fish passage challenges posed by three undersized culverts currently spanning the creek. The city plans to replace these culverts with a one-lane bridge, which will open up access to around five miles of fish habitat. Mayor Mike Millman remarked on the project’s importance for ensuring safe passage for salmon and other native species, reinforcing Woodinville's commitment to conservation. The construction is expected to commence in Fall 2026, aligning with the US Army Corps of Engineers' approved fish window.

This initiative not only addresses critical environmental concerns but also exemplifies successful collaboration between local, state, and federal partners. The project is viewed as a significant step towards fiscal responsibility and environmental stewardship in the region. The funding highlights the ongoing commitment to improve local ecosystems and support wildlife in Woodinville.
