WSDOT I-405/SR 522 Interchange Improvement Project

Woodinville, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Sound Transit have initiated the I-405/SR 522 Interchange Improvement Project, a multi-year effort aimed at enhancing traffic flow and mobility on the Eastside. The project will extend the dual express toll lane system along a 4. 5-mile corridor from Brickyard to SR 527, significantly impacting travel to and from the City of Woodinville. Key improvements will include the addition of one new express toll lane in each direction, as well as direct access ramps to state highways. Although the project does not run through Woodinville, the reconstruction of the SR 522 interchange will affect local travel patterns.

Furthermore, this initiative is designed to facilitate future expansions of Sound Transit’s Stride S2 Line, which will connect Lynwood and Bellevue with new bus rapid transit services. As construction begins, travelers should be aware of lane reductions and ramp closures starting April 19, 2024, which may lead to extended travel times. WSDOT encourages residents and commuters to plan ahead to mitigate disruptions during the improvement process. This project represents a significant investment in regional transportation infrastructure, aiming to enhance mobility and reduce congestion in the area.
