West Hollywood Celebrates Disabilities Awareness Month with Events and Honors

West Hollywood, CADisabilities Awareness Month

The City of West Hollywood is observing Disabilities Awareness Month in October, coinciding with the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This month will feature the installation of 19 street pole banners along Santa Monica Boulevard, celebrating past recipients of the City’s Disability Service Awards. Two major events are planned to foster awareness and honor contributions to the disability community: a free Health and Wellness Event on October 1 at the Plummer Park Community Center, providing essential health services including flu and COVID-19 vaccines, and the 26th Annual Disability Service Awards on October 23, recognizing outstanding individuals and organizations in the disability sector. Honorees include Myra “Mikie” Friedman and California Rehabilitation Institute. These events will be broadcast live on WeHoTV, ensuring accessibility for all community members.

The Disabilities Advisory Board, formed in 1995, plays a critical role in advocating for issues affecting individuals with disabilities.
