Washington, DCLocal News

Georgetown University, the District of Columbia, and the National Park Service forged an agreement to enhance public access to the Potomac River at the Georgetown Waterfront. Georgetown will donate land to the National Park Service for a new boathouse, which aims to support non-motorized boating activities, including kayaking and paddle boarding. In exchange, the National Park Service will transfer two parcels at the Key Bridge to the District for development purposes. Mayor Muriel Bowser highlighted the collaborative effort, stating it transforms underutilized space into a community asset. The new boathouse will also serve Georgetown's rowing teams and free up existing space for other local teams.

Robert Groves, Interim President of Georgetown, expressed gratitude for the long-standing partnership with the city and the National Park Service. Key Bridge Boats will continue operations at a new location to be determined. This agreement reflects a commitment to both preserving public lands and enhancing recreational access along the Potomac River.
