Washington, DCLocal News

The groundbreaking of a new recreation center and early childhood education center in Fort Lincoln, DC, was celebrated by Mayor Muriel Bowser and local leaders, marking a crucial investment in community infrastructure. The $49 million Fort Lincoln Campus Improvement Project will feature a 44,000-square-foot facility that includes a gym, fitness center, and various rooms for community use. This project is part of Mayor Bowser's commitment made in 2019 to revitalize former school sites for early childhood education, with two other centers already operational. In tandem, the City Homes development will deliver 51 townhomes, including five affordable units, further enhancing the neighborhood’s housing options. The construction is expected to create new opportunities for families, with completion anticipated by 2028.

Local leaders emphasized the importance of these developments in fostering a vibrant community and improving residents' quality of life. The existing Theodore Hagans Cultural Center and Outdoor Pool will remain unaffected during construction, ensuring continued access to community resources. Overall, this initiative reflects a long-standing commitment to enriching the Fort Lincoln area through infrastructure development and community engagement.
