Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), which has transformed urban mobility since its launch on September 20, 2010. As the largest municipality-owned bikeshare system in the United States, CaBi has recorded over 50 million trips, with a notable 6 million trips in 2024 alone. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum emphasized the program's role in connecting residents to jobs, schools, and cultural destinations. The system has expanded from 49 stations to more than 800 across eight jurisdictions, enhancing access to cycling. Recent upgrades include replacing over 140 outdated stations and initiating a solar canopy pilot, which allows e-bikes to recharge while docked.

CaBi also supports inclusivity through partnerships that provide adaptive cycling options for riders with disabilities. The Bowser Administration's investments in multimodal transportation have resulted in 55 miles of bike lanes and significant funding for pedestrian and bike trails. Residents and visitors can explore the system map and pricing on the official website.
