Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), which has revolutionized transportation in the District since its launch on September 20, 2010. Starting with 49 stations and 400 bikes, CaBi has grown to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across multiple jurisdictions. In 2024, it recorded more than 6 million trips, setting a new annual ridership record for the second year in a row. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum emphasized CaBi's significance in linking residents to jobs and cultural sites. Recent initiatives include solar canopies for e-bikes, which help reduce operational costs and keep bikes in service longer.

Additionally, the program offers adaptive cycling sessions for riders with disabilities, expanding access to cycling. The Bowser Administration's focus on multimodal transportation is evident in recent investments, including the addition of bike lanes and dedicated bus lanes. These efforts aim to enhance sustainable transit options for all residents and visitors.
