Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare
The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), a pioneering bikeshare system in the U. S. Since its inception in 2010, CaBi has grown from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating more than 50 million trips. In 2024 alone, the program recorded over 6 million trips, breaking ridership records for the second consecutive year. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum highlighted CaBi's vital role in connecting residents to jobs and cultural destinations.
The program also prioritizes accessibility, offering free adaptive cycling sessions for riders with disabilities through a partnership with Achilles International. Recent enhancements include the replacement of over 140 outdated stations and a solar canopy pilot to recharge e-bikes. The FY26 Budget reflects a commitment to multimodal transportation, allocating $64 million for WMATA and $74 million for new pedestrian and bike trails. These investments aim to promote healthier and greener transportation options throughout the District.
