Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, a pioneering bikeshare system that has transformed transportation in the District since its launch on September 20, 2010. Initially a partnership between the District of Columbia and Arlington County, CaBi has expanded to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across multiple jurisdictions. Riders have taken more than 50 million trips, with 2024 seeing a record of over 6 million trips, a 36. 9% increase from the previous year. E-bikes, introduced in 2018, now comprise over 60% of total rides, demonstrating a shift toward greener transportation.

The DDOT has replaced more than 140 of the oldest stations as part of ongoing maintenance efforts and launched a solar canopy pilot project to recharge e-bikes. The administration continues to invest in multimodal transportation, having built 55 miles of bike lanes and expanded bus and trail networks. The FY26 Budget, Grow DC, includes historic funding for pedestrian and bike trail projects. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore the bikeshare system and its pricing options online.
