Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, which has transformed transportation in the District since its launch on September 20, 2010. Originally starting with 49 stations and 400 bikes, CaBi has expanded to more than 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating over 50 million trips to date. In 2024, the program achieved a record-breaking 6 million trips, marking a 36. 9% increase from the previous year. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has made significant investments in infrastructure, including replacing over 140 older stations and launching a solar canopy pilot for e-bike charging.

CaBi also promotes inclusivity by offering adaptive cycling sessions for riders with disabilities, further expanding access to cycling. The Bowser Administration's FY26 Budget includes historic investments in multimodal transportation, emphasizing the importance of safe and affordable travel. Over the past decade, the District has built 55 miles of bike lanes and expanded the trail network to 67 miles. Capital Bikeshare continues to play a vital role in fostering healthier and greener transportation options for all residents.
