Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), a key player in the District's transportation landscape. Since its inception in 2010, CaBi has expanded from 49 stations to over 800, recording more than 50 million trips to date. The 2024 ridership surpassed 6 million, marking a significant increase and breaking annual records for the second consecutive year. E-bikes, introduced in 2018, now account for more than 60% of all rides, illustrating a shift towards sustainable transport. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has undertaken substantial investments, including replacing over 140 old stations and launching a solar canopy pilot to enhance operational efficiency.

These efforts align with the District's commitment to multimodal transportation, which includes the construction of 55 miles of bike lanes. Moreover, CaBi has partnered with Achilles International to offer free adaptive cycling sessions for residents with disabilities, promoting inclusivity in cycling. The FY26 Budget, Grow DC, further supports these initiatives with significant funding for transportation improvements across the District.
