Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), which has expanded its network to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes since its launch on September 20, 2010. In 2024 alone, the system recorded over 6 million trips, breaking the annual ridership record for the second consecutive year, with a 36. 9% increase from 2023. District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Sharon Kershbaum highlighted CaBi's importance in linking residents to jobs, schools, and cultural sites. Initially a partnership between the District and Arlington County, CaBi has grown into a vital transportation option, including adaptive cycling sessions for riders with disabilities.

Since 2021, DDOT has upgraded many of the oldest stations, and a solar canopy pilot was launched to improve operational efficiency. The Bowser Administration's commitment to multimodal transportation is evident in the construction of 55 miles of bike lanes and the expansion of the trail network. The FY26 Budget, titled Grow DC, includes historic investments to further enhance transportation infrastructure across the District.
