Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare
The Bowser Administration commemorates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), a landmark bikeshare program in the nation. Launched on September 20, 2010, CaBi has grown from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating more than 50 million trips since its inception. In 2024, the system recorded over 6 million trips, surpassing previous ridership records for the second consecutive year. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum highlighted CaBi's significance in enhancing transportation for residents and visitors. Significant investments have included replacing 140 outdated stations and initiating a solar canopy pilot, allowing e-bikes to recharge at select stations.
The initiative also expands cycling access, offering free adaptive cycling sessions for individuals with disabilities. The Bowser Administration has invested heavily in multimodal transportation, developing 55 miles of bike lanes and enhancing public transit infrastructure. Such efforts aim to promote healthier, greener transportation options across the District.
