Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare
The Bowser Administration celebrated the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), a groundbreaking bikeshare system that has reshaped transportation in Washington, D. C. Launched in 2010, CaBi has grown from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating more than 50 million trips to date. In 2024, riders recorded over 6 million trips, marking a 36. 9% increase from the previous year and setting a new annual ridership record.
DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum highlighted the program's significance in connecting residents to jobs and cultural destinations. The administration has also implemented upgrades, such as replacing old stations and introducing a solar canopy pilot for e-bike recharging. Additionally, CaBi is expanding access for riders with disabilities through partnerships that offer adaptive cycling options. The Bowser Administration's ongoing investments in multimodal transportation underscore its commitment to enhancing cycling infrastructure. The FY26 Budget further supports these initiatives with significant funding for pedestrian and bike trails across all wards.
