Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), which has expanded from 49 stations and 400 bikes in 2010 to more than 800 stations and 8,000 bikes today. In 2024 alone, riders took over 6 million trips, a 36. 9% increase from 2023, setting a new annual ridership record for the second consecutive year. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum emphasized CaBi's significance in providing affordable and accessible transportation options. The introduction of e-bikes in 2018 has increased their share of rides to over 60%.

Furthermore, DDOT has replaced over 140 aging CaBi stations and launched a solar canopy pilot to enhance operational efficiency. Partnerships, such as with Achilles International, now offer adaptive cycling for individuals with disabilities, expanding access to cycling. The District's commitment to multimodal transportation includes building 55 miles of bike lanes and expanding the trail network. The FY26 Budget allocates historic investments in transportation to sustain and enhance this progress across all wards.
