The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, a pioneering bikeshare system that has grown to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes since launching in 2010. In 2024, the program recorded over 6 million trips, setting a new annual ridership record for the second year in a row, with annual trips increasing by 36. 9% from the previous year. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum noted that Capital Bikeshare connects residents to jobs, schools, and cultural destinations while promoting healthier transportation options. The administration has replaced more than 140 older stations and launched a solar canopy pilot to enhance e-bike service.

Additionally, CaBi offers free adaptive cycling sessions for riders with disabilities, expanding access to cycling across the District. Over the past decade, the District has invested significantly in multimodal transportation, building 55 miles of bike lanes and expanding the trail network. The FY26 Budget further supports these initiatives with historic transportation funding. Residents are encouraged to explore the system and pricing at capitalbikeshare. com.
