Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare
The Bowser Administration marks the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), a trailblazing bikeshare initiative in the U. S. Launched in 2010, CaBi has expanded to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, transforming transportation in the District. In 2024, riders took more than 6 million trips, setting a new record for annual ridership. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum highlighted the system's importance in connecting residents to jobs and cultural sites.
Recent upgrades include replacing over 140 of the oldest stations and launching a solar canopy pilot to improve e-bike service. The program also prioritizes accessibility, offering free adaptive cycling sessions for individuals with disabilities. The Bowser Administration has invested significantly in multimodal transportation, adding miles of bike lanes and dedicated bus lanes. The FY26 Budget includes historic funding for further transportation improvements across the District.
