The Bowser Administration celebrated the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, a groundbreaking bikeshare system that has transformed transportation in the District. Since its launch in 2010, CaBi has expanded from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating more than 50 million trips. In 2024, the system set a new annual ridership record with over 6 million trips, marking a 36. 9% increase from 2023. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum noted the system's significant role in connecting residents to jobs, schools, and cultural destinations.

Recent upgrades include the replacement of over 140 old stations and the introduction of a solar canopy pilot to recharge e-bikes, reducing operational costs. The Bowser Administration has invested heavily in multimodal transportation, including the construction of 55 miles of bike lanes. The FY26 Budget allocates significant funds for further improvements across all eight wards. CaBi's efforts to enhance access to cycling include partnerships providing adaptive cycling options for riders with disabilities.
