Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, a pioneering bikeshare system that has transformed transportation in the District since its 2010 launch. Originally starting with 49 stations and 400 bikes, CaBi now boasts over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across DC, Maryland, and Virginia. In 2024, riders recorded over 6 million trips, breaking the annual ridership record for the second year in a row. E-bikes, which were introduced in 2018, now account for more than 60% of rides. The District Department of Transportation has undertaken significant upgrades, replacing over 140 aging stations and launching a solar canopy pilot project for e-bike recharging.

Additionally, partnerships with organizations like Achilles International provide adaptive cycling options for residents with disabilities. The Bowser Administration has made extensive investments in multimodal transportation, including 55 miles of new bike lanes and dedicated bus lanes. These efforts aim to enhance accessibility and promote sustainable commuting in the region.
