Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, which has grown from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across D. C. , Maryland, and Virginia. Since its launch in 2010, CaBi has facilitated over 50 million trips, with more than 6 million in 2024 alone, setting a new annual ridership record. District Department of Transportation Director Sharon Kershbaum remarked on the system's critical role in connecting residents to jobs and cultural destinations.

The program enhances transportation accessibility, particularly for individuals with disabilities, through initiatives like free adaptive cycling sessions. Recent improvements include a solar canopy pilot to recharge e-bikes and comprehensive investments in bike lanes and infrastructure. Over the past decade, the District has built 55 miles of bike lanes and expanded its trail network to 67 miles. The FY26 Budget allocates historic funding for transportation, including $74 million for new pedestrian and bike trails. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore Capital Bikeshare's offerings at their website.
