Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, the largest municipality-owned bikeshare system in the U. S. Launched on September 20, 2010, CaBi has transformed transportation in the District, facilitating over 50 million trips to date. In 2024, the program recorded more than 6 million trips, breaking its annual ridership record for the second consecutive year and achieving a 36. 9% increase in annual trips from 2023.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has made significant investments, replacing over 140 old stations since 2021 and launching a solar canopy pilot to recharge e-bikes. The program now includes more than 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across the DC area. CaBi also promotes inclusivity through partnerships that provide free adaptive cycling sessions for individuals with disabilities. The Bowser Administration continues to prioritize multimodal transportation investments, including additional funding for bike lanes and trails. These efforts reflect a commitment to enhancing transportation accessibility and sustainability in the region.
