Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

The Bowser Administration marked the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, highlighting its transformation into a key transportation system in the District. Since its inception in 2010, CaBi has expanded from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating more than 50 million trips. The program achieved a record 6 million trips in 2024, showcasing a 36. 9% increase from the previous year. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum noted CaBi's role in connecting communities to jobs, schools, and cultural sites.

The initiative also includes adaptive cycling sessions for individuals with disabilities, promoting inclusivity in cycling. Since 2021, DDOT has upgraded over 140 older stations and introduced a solar canopy pilot for e-bikes. The District's investments in multimodal transportation have resulted in the construction of 55 miles of bike lanes and the expansion of the trail network. The FY26 Budget further allocates funds for ongoing transportation development across the city.
