Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), the largest municipality-owned bikeshare system in the United States. Launched on September 20, 2010, CaBi has expanded from 49 stations to over 800, facilitating more than 50 million trips to date. In 2024, the program recorded over 6 million trips, marking a 36. 9% increase in annual ridership. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum noted the system's crucial role in connecting residents to jobs and cultural destinations, emphasizing ongoing investments for accessibility.

Since 2021, DDOT has replaced over 140 of the oldest stations and launched a solar canopy pilot to recharge e-bikes. Additionally, CaBi has partnered with Achilles International to provide free adaptive cycling sessions for riders with disabilities. The Bowser Administration has invested heavily in multimodal transportation, including 55 miles of bike lanes and 13 miles of dedicated bus lanes. These initiatives reflect a commitment to enhancing cycling infrastructure and expanding access for all residents in the District.
