Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

The Bowser Administration commemorates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), a groundbreaking bikeshare system launched on September 20, 2010. CaBi has transformed transportation in the District, facilitating over 50 million trips, with over 6 million trips recorded in 2024 alone, marking a 36. 9% increase from the previous year. The system has expanded significantly, growing from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across D. C.

, Maryland, and Virginia. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum noted the system's importance in connecting residents to jobs and cultural sites. The introduction of e-bikes has further enhanced the program, with over 60% of rides now utilizing this option. Additionally, DDOT has implemented adaptive cycling sessions for residents with disabilities, expanding access to biking. The Bowser Administration has invested heavily in multimodal transportation, including the construction of 55 miles of bike lanes and funding for new pedestrian and bike trails.

The FY26 Budget, Grow DC, continues this trend with historic transportation investments across all eight wards.
