Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration commemorates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, the largest municipality-owned bikeshare system in the U. S. Since its inception in 2010, CaBi has expanded from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across eight jurisdictions. In 2024, the system recorded more than 6 million trips, breaking its previous annual ridership record for the second year in a row. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum emphasized the program's importance in providing affordable transportation options.

Recent enhancements include a solar canopy pilot project at select stations to recharge e-bikes and free adaptive cycling sessions for riders with disabilities. The Bowser Administration has invested in multimodal transportation, adding 55 miles of bike lanes and nearly doubling the number of CaBi stations. The FY26 Budget continues this trend with historic investments in transportation infrastructure. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore the bikeshare system at capitalbikeshare. com.
