Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrated the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), which has transformed transportation in the District since its launch in 2010. Starting with 49 stations and 400 bikes, CaBi now operates over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating over 50 million trips, including 6 million in 2024 alone. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum emphasized CaBi's importance in connecting residents to jobs and cultural sites. Recent upgrades included replacing 140 of the oldest stations and launching a solar canopy pilot for e-bikes. The program has also expanded access to cycling for individuals with disabilities through partnerships with organizations like Achilles International.

Over the past decade, the District has invested in bike lanes and dedicated bus lanes to enhance multimodal transportation. The FY26 Budget, Grow DC, allocates $64 million for WMATA and $74 million for new pedestrian and bike trails. Residents are encouraged to explore the system map and pricing at capitalbikeshare. com.
