Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

The Bowser Administration commemorates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, which has evolved from a small pilot program to the largest municipality-owned bikeshare system in the U. S. The program now boasts over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating more than 50 million trips since its inception. In 2024, riders recorded over 6 million trips, setting an annual ridership record for the second straight year with a 36. 9% increase from 2023.

DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum emphasized CaBi's role in providing safe, affordable transportation options. The program has undergone significant upgrades, with over 140 stations replaced since 2021 and new solar canopies introduced to extend e-bike service life. The Bowser Administration has invested in multimodal transport, adding bike lanes and dedicated bus lanes across the District.
