Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration commemorated the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), which has significantly changed transportation in the District since its launch on September 20, 2010. Initially a collaboration between the District of Columbia and Arlington County, CaBi has expanded from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across eight jurisdictions. Riders have completed more than 50 million trips, with a record 6 million trips in 2024 alone, reflecting a 36. 9% increase from the previous year. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum noted that CaBi connects residents to jobs and cultural destinations, emphasizing its importance in urban mobility.

The program also promotes inclusivity through partnerships that provide adaptive cycling options for individuals with disabilities. Recent investments have led to the replacement of over 140 older stations and the introduction of solar canopies for e-bike charging. The Bowser Administration's ongoing commitment to multimodal transportation includes funding for new trails and bike lanes, enhancing the District's cycling infrastructure. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore the system at capitalbikeshare. com.
