Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration commemorates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, a pioneering bikeshare system that launched in 2010. Originally starting with 49 stations and 400 bikes, CaBi now operates over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across the DC metropolitan area. Riders have taken more than 50 million trips, with 2024 breaking the annual ridership record for the second year in a row, surpassing 6 million trips. DDOT has focused on upgrading older stations and recently piloted solar canopies at select locations to improve e-bike service. Additionally, CaBi promotes cycling accessibility through free adaptive cycling sessions for individuals with disabilities.

The administration has invested significantly in transportation infrastructure, including 55 miles of bike lanes and dedicated bus lanes. The upcoming FY26 Budget plans to further enhance these multimodal investments across the city. These developments underscore the Bowser Administration's commitment to sustainable and inclusive transportation options.
