Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), the largest municipality-owned bikeshare in the U. S. Launched on September 20, 2010, CaBi has grown from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating more than 50 million trips. In 2024, the program recorded over 6 million trips, a 36. 9% increase from 2023, breaking annual ridership records for the second year.

DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum stated that CaBi has become essential for navigating the District, connecting residents to jobs and cultural destinations. Since 2021, DDOT has replaced over 140 older stations and launched a solar canopy pilot program for e-bikes, enhancing operational efficiency. The Bowser Administration's investments in multimodal transportation have resulted in 55 miles of bike lanes and 13 miles of dedicated bus lanes over the past decade. The FY26 Budget, Grow DC, further supports these initiatives with historic investments across all eight wards. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore CaBi's system map and pricing at capitalbikeshare.
