Bowser Administration Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Capital Bikeshare

The Bowser Administration commemorates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare, a pioneering bikeshare system that has significantly transformed transportation in Washington, D. C. Launched in 2010, CaBi has expanded from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes, facilitating more than 50 million trips to date. In 2024, the program achieved record ridership with over 6 million trips, a 36. 9% increase from the previous year, marking the second consecutive year of record-breaking usage.

The District Department of Transportation has actively upgraded more than 140 aging stations and introduced a solar canopy pilot project to enhance e-bike service. Furthermore, the program promotes inclusivity through free adaptive cycling sessions for individuals with disabilities, in partnership with Achilles International. The Bowser Administration has invested heavily in multimodal transportation, adding 55 miles of bike lanes and expanding the trail network. The FY26 Budget, Grow DC, continues this trend with historic funding for transportation improvements. This initiative aims to provide safer, more affordable, and accessible travel options for all residents and visitors.
