Washington, DCLocal News

The Bowser Administration celebrates the 15th anniversary of Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), which has become a vital transportation option in the District. Launched in 2010, the bikeshare system has expanded from 49 stations and 400 bikes to over 800 stations and 8,000 bikes across eight jurisdictions. In 2024, CaBi recorded over 6 million trips, marking a 36. 9% increase from the previous year and establishing a new annual ridership record. DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum noted that CaBi connects residents to essential locations like jobs and parks.

Since 2021, more than 140 of the oldest stations have been replaced, and new initiatives, including adaptive cycling sessions for riders with disabilities, have been introduced. The Bowser Administration has invested heavily in multimodal transportation, building 55 miles of bike lanes and expanding the trail network. The FY26 Budget, titled Grow DC, allocates significant funds for transportation improvements, including pedestrian and bike trails. CaBi continues to promote sustainable and accessible transportation options for all residents and visitors.
