Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser announced substantial gains in proficiency rates for the District's statewide assessments in English language arts and math. The ELA proficiency rate is now at a record-high of 57. 7%, while 47. 5% of students met or exceeded math expectations. This year marks the largest increase in proficiency since the pandemic, with gains seen across all tested grades and demographic groups.

Over 60% of schools in the District reported significant improvements, with many schools increasing proficiency by at least 5 percentage points. Bowser attributed this progress to strategic investments in education and the commitment of educators. State Superintendent Dr. Antoinette S. Mitchell emphasized the importance of these results for academic recovery.

The data reflects a broader movement towards elevating student achievement in the District. As students prepare to return to school, these improvements provide a foundation for continued academic success.
