Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, which includes 146 new housing units, of which 22 are affordable. This project is part of a broader redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, transforming it into a mixed-use neighborhood with recreational and commercial spaces. Bowser highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in creating homeownership opportunities and revitalizing underutilized land. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed personal connections to the site and emphasized the importance of community values in the development. The townhomes' design features white brick facades that echo the site’s historic architecture.

This initiative aligns with Bowser’s Growth Agenda, which allocates substantial funding for affordable housing, including $100 million for the Housing Protection Trust Fund. Additionally, the Reservoir District will host a summer event series aimed at fostering community engagement and celebrating local culture. The development aims to enhance the quality of life for residents and support the growth of a thriving neighborhood.
